James Eugene “Jim” Minton, 78, of Bloomington, passed from his earthly life at 9:20 pm on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at the Hearthstone Health Campus in Bloomington, Indiana. Jim was one of five children born to the late Carroll C. And Eunice C. (Lentz) Minton. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Saturday, September 27, 1941. Jim and his siblings were raised in Marion County and he graduated from Decatur Central High School in Indianapolis. Following graduation, Jim enlisted in the Indiana National Guard prior to joining the workforce. In the early 1960’s, he began his career in law enforcement as a patrolman for the Indianapolis Police Department, though most of his ‘working life’ was spent in the insurance industry. He worked as an insurance adjuster for several years for American States Insurance Co, later known as Safeco, from which he ultimately retired in 2002. Being the vivacious and hardworking man that he was, Jim was not cut-out for retirement and soon thereafter, he gained employment with the Monroe County Public Library as a security guard. During his entire life, Jim was a conscious physical fitness guru who loved to run and workout, which is exactly why his last ‘career’ was working as a trainer at the Bloomington YMCA. In addition to his years of employment, Jim enjoyed frequenting the Endwright Center in Ellettsville where he loved to play euchre and participate in other senior activities and attending the Cornerstone Worship Center in Judah, Indiana. He also took pleasure in hunting, fishing and simply put, the outdoors! Many will remember him by his unique sense of humor, witty personality or perhaps, his super sensitive and caring demeanor, all of which he was a master! He will be missed and fondly remembered by so many, including his wife, Anna G. “Gracie” (Evans) of Bloomington; son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Julie Minton of Martinsville; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Brian Clark, and their daughters, Ellis and Everly Clark all of Bloomington; and one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Delores Minton of Ohio. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ervin and Don Minton and one sister, Mary McHugh. During this unprecedented time, the Minton family has requested to host a private family only visitation and is inviting family and friends to join them for a graveside service on Monday, March 23, 2020 beginning at 12 Noon at the West Newton Cemetery, West Newton, Indiana. They have further asked that anyone who wants to make a donation in Jim’s memory to please “Pay It Forward in Acts of Kindness.” Their intent is to have people do as Jim would do and help others, especially now! Please share condolences and memories with the Minton family online at www.nealandsummers.com

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of James E Jim Minton September 27 1941 March 18 2020.
