Gerald L. “Jerry” Benjamin, 81, a resident of Greenwood, passed from this life on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at the Greenwood Health and Living Community. Jerry was one of eight children born to the late Maurice E. and Mary Gwendolyn (Willis) Benjamin. He and his twin brother, Robert, were born on Thursday, November 17, 1938 in Loogootee, Indiana. Jerry had lived the past few years in Greenwood, moving from Bedford, Indiana, though most of his adult life was spent in Beech Grove and Morgan County. He worked as a supervisor for many years at Crown Screw & Bolt Company in Indianapolis and had most recently been employed at Home Depot in Greenwood, Indiana. The US Navy veteran loved music, Johnny Cash, the outdoors and Beagle dogs. He was a talented guitar player and vocalist, playing at many venues over the years. His love for the outdoors was evident, as Jerry enjoyed fishing, gardening, and the simple pleasure of listening to the sounds of nature. He is survived by a host of family and friends including his three daughters, Lori (husband, Clark) Ferguson of Brazil, IN, Marci (husband, Craig) Briles of Bloomington, IN and Franci (husband, Kevin) Dilk of Greenwood, IN; step-daughter, Veronica Swimm of Whiteland, IN; step-son, Gary (daughter, Melissa) Clevenger of Indianapolis, IN and thirteen grandchildren. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Kerry Clevenger Benjamin in 2010; six brothers, Joseph “Laddie”, Donald, Robert “Gene”, Glenn Edwin, John Charles and William Willis Benjamin and one sister, Mary Lyons. In honoring Jerry’s wishes, he will be cremated, and the family will be hosting a private memorial service at a later date.
