Delvis Lee Harvey was welcomed at the gates of Heaven on March 28, 2020. Born in Spartanburg County, SC on November 28, 1937, he was the son of the late Smiley James and Leona Anders Harvey. Delvis was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving in the VP-6 Squadron. After the Navy he went to work as a salesman for Sunbeam Bakeries. He was transferred to Charlotte, NC in 1973, where he was the general manager for the Charlotte and Rock Hill terminals. After 32 years he retired and came back to Greenville and with his sons started Harvey’s BP on Augusta Street. Delvis was also a Mason and a Shriner. After retiring he and Jo enjoyed travelling with his Navy buddies every year from 1999-2017. They travelled across the USA and saw many of God’s beautiful creations. Delvis loved sports. He played softball in the Navy and on a Sunbeam team. He was a runner and a tennis player. He loved a good doubles match with his friends, Buster Williams, Beetle Cuthbertson and Charles Katzenstein. He also enjoyed golf and bowling. After returning to Greenville he enjoyed working out at Cleveland Street YMCA and playing ping-pong with his friends, Frank Mills and Niles Ray. He was an ardent Green Bay Packers fan and saw them play at Lambeau Field with his daughter, Renee and grandson, Will for his 80th birthday. Delvis loved the Lord, his family and friends. Always with a smile, he will be greatly missed. Delvis is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jo Coker Harvey; one daughter, Renee Harvey; two sons, Eric (Laurie) and Deric (Ivy); seven grandchildren, Will Harvey, McKenzie Alexander, Kyle Alexander, Eli Bishop, Buck Bishop, Stefanie Pullara and Ian McAllister; two great-grandchildren, Jaxon Ashy and Aidan Pullara; one sister, Juanita Davis; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Harvey; one brother-in-law, Ronnie Bowman; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers, Ott, S.J., Charlie, Ernest and Guy; three sisters, Lib Newman, Marion Brannon and Jean Bowman. The family would like to thank the special caregivers, Kathy Montjoy, Courtney Cannon and Teresa Garrett, they have been the family’s angels. Funeral services will be held at a later date.
