Charles Andrew Titone (3/1/26 to 3/27/2020) Charles A. Titone passed peacefully at Samaritan Hospice of Mt. Holly at the age of 94. Mr. Titone, affectionately known as “Charlie” or “Pops”, was born in Brooklyn, New York and moved to Burlington, New Jersey at an early age. His family resided on Riverbank Road in Burlington City in a home known as the “Stone Cottage” before moving into an old farm house on Jacksonville Road. Charlie and a few of his siblings later built their own residences next door to their parents’ home where he remained until his passing. He was the son of Joseph Titone and Catharine (Maltese) Titone. Charlie was drafted into World War II when he was 18 and served as part of the Army of Occupation as an Army private in Company K, 262nd Regiment of the 66th Infantry Division – Black Panthers. Charlie moved up to Corporal and was one of the surviving passengers of the SS Léopoldville when a German torpedo sunk the ship on December 24, 1944 in the English Channel while on its way to the Battle of the Bulge, killing more than 750 soldiers. He was a recipient of a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, European Campaign Medal and Allied Victory Medal. Charlie served in Lorient and Saint-Nazaire protecting France and Allied interests until the end of the war. When the war ended, Charlie was sent to Vienna and supervised the reconstruction of railroads in Vienna and Germany as part of the Army occupation. He graduated high school at Temple University night school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania after his return from Europe. Shortly thereafter, he met his loving wife Rosaline (Miccio) Titone through a blind date arranged by the wife of his brother, Alfred. They married just eight months later in 1952 and went on to have six beautiful children. They were married for over 68 years. After serving their time in WWII, Charlie and his brothers Seymour and Alfred; along with their father Joseph, founded their textile business Joseph Titone & Sons, Inc. which was in Burlington, NJ in 1946. Charlie served as president and co-owner of Joseph Titone and Sons and later served as a consultant for Burlington-based textile business Cellunet Manufacturing Company. He worked in the textiles industry for more than 50 years where he, along with his brothers Alfred and Seymour, aided in the development and production of the artificial aorta, with heart pioneer, Dr. Michael DeBakey. Charlie was a proud member of the South Jersey Pontiac Club and was fondly admired for his green 1942 Pontiac Streamliner Chieftain Coupe, also known as a Torpedo. He also loved fishing and owned several boats throughout his life; his favorite was named Charlie’s Arc. Known for his humbleness, optimism and selflessness, Charlie could light up a room with his soft-spoken nature, few words and endearing smile. He will be remembered for his strength, kindness and honesty. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Titone and Catharine (Maltese) Titone, brothers Alfred and Seymour “Siggy” Titone, and his sons William Titone and Charles Andrew Titone II. He is survived by his loving wife, Rosaline (Miccio) Titone; his sons Joseph Titone and his wife Sheri and their two daughters Sara and Summer; Robert Titone and his wife Victoria and their two daughters Jennifer and Natalie; his daughters Jeannie (Titone) Kirchner and her husband James Kirchner and their two children Julia and William; and Mary (Titone) Muscavage, and her husband Gregory Muscavage and their children Nicholas and Kaylee; and his two grandchildren Charles Andrew Titone, III and Rachael Titone-Bauwens by his late son Charles; as well as his sisters Jean Dormand and Anita Scarperia. Services will remain private in light of the current coronavirus pandemic throughout our world and the family will be holding a celebration of life with military honors ceremony at a future date to be announced .
