Charisse’s Obituary Dr. Charisse Nicole “Reese” Matthews, age 39, was born in Cairo, Illinois on April 17, 1980 to Carol Childress. Charisse peacefully yielded her spirit on March 19, 2020 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Charisse was a graduate of Cairo High School Class of 1998 and in 2005 she earned her Associates of Arts degree from Shawnee Community College. In 2007, Charisse while continuing to advance in her studies, earned a Bachelors of Science from Mid-Continent University. While continuing her education, Charisse was presently substituting for both Cairo and Meridian School Districts Pre-K through 12th grade. Charisse aimed high and was driven to continue reaching for the stars by earning her Masters in Education from William Woods University in 2016 while also being employed as a teacher at Cairo Head Start (2014 – Present) and as a Instructor at Shawnee Community College (2017 – Present). Determined to cross the finish line, Charisse entered into the Doctorate Program at William Woods University to earn her Specialist Degree in Education and was echeduled to graduate April 25, 2020. Charisse was an Israelite and Member of the Seventh Day Assembly of Cairo, Illinois, the Alexander/Pulaski Counties NAACP and the Mounds Lions Club. Charisse was preceded in death by her father Milo Jones; Grandfathers James Childress and John Matthews, Jr; Grandmother, Vera Lee Jones; Many aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Charisse leaves to cherish her memories, her parents Carol(Glenn) Childress of Cairo, Illinois; Grandmothers Arbell Matthews and Elvia Childress; two sons, Eltroy Davis, Jr. and JaQuaviontae Davis of Cairo, Illinois; One brother, Keyvaire (Samella) Childress of Tamms, Illinois; One sister, Kenitra (Reno) Jones of Cape Girardeau, Missouri and an Uncle Gregory Jones of Cairo, Illinois; A special Friend, Eltroy Davis, Sr; Two Special Nephews, Reno and Mar’Reno Jones; Her best Friends, Deborah Nelson-Brown, Nheema Walker, Jasmine Hollis; A Godson, Malachi Brown; A Special Cousin, Angel Petty; many aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends. Services for Charisse Nicole Matthews will be PRIVATE IN ORDER TO SLOW DOWN THE SPREAD OF THE COVID – 19 VIRUS. Burial will be in the Green Lawn Memorial Garden in Villa Ridge, Illinois.
