Virgil Dean Malone December 27, 1943 – February 23, 2020 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Memorial Donation Virgil “Dean” Malone, 76, Elizabethton went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on February 23, 2020, after a lengthy illness. Dean was a Carter County resident and the son of the late Virgil Everett and Cora Leffman Malone. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Larry, Dennis and Jack and baby sister Barbara. Dean was retired from United Cities Gas and was a Pharmacy Technician. Dean was a veteran from the Navy, in which he proudly served as a radioman on the USS Abraham Lincoln Nuclear Submarine. Dean attended Heritage Baptist Church and was a member of Antioch Baptist and Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Dean loved golf and football. He is survived by his wife, of 56 years, Phyllis Ledford Malone and his children, sons Patrick (Lisa) and Tim (of the home),and Brian (Janilu) Malone. He was also survived by the love of his life, grandson, Everett Dean Malone. One brother: Worley Malone and sister, Shirley Hawkins. In addition, he is survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Gary Knapp and Pastor Daniel Wood officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 27, 2020 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery (New Section) 215 Heroes Drive. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m. Thursday will be: Tim Malone, Patrick Malone, Roger Ledford, Joe Adams, Joey Adams, Brian Malone, Rick Culler and Keith Culler. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jimmy Westmoreland and Roy Gouge. The family would like to express a special thank you to the Nursing Staff of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center and the staff of Avalon Home Hospice. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in memory of Dean to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m. Thursday.
