Valeria’s Obituary Valeria M. Hodge Ketchum, 84, of Chidester passed away Tuesday at Ouachita County Medical Center. She was born May 16, 1935, to Floyd A. and Verna Seale Hodge in Troy. Valeria attended school in Troy before graduating from Stephens High School in 1952. After attending nursing training at St. Joseph Hospital in Hot Springs, she began a lifelong career as a nurse and caregiver. Valeria worked at Ouachita County Hospital and for Dr. Tom Meek. Following his retirement, she was director of nursing at Longmeadow Nursing Home before becoming administrator of the nursing home for nearly a decade. In 1986, Valeria returned to nursing at OCMC. She also worked for Ouachita County Home Health and at another local nursing home. She retired in 2011. Valeria was a lifelong member of Adams Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and served as the church’s secretary-treasurer for several years. She participated in Ouachita County Relay for Life and was known for her coconut cakes. She also was a longtime supporter of the Two Bayou Volunteer Fire Department. Valeria was married for 55 years to Sam Ketchum, who preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Connie Mack Hodge, sisters Shirley E. Hodge and Marie Robertson, and brother-in-law J.T. Robertson. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Ketchum, of Chidester; sister Carole Pharr (Fred) of Chidester; brother Douglas A. Hodge (Jenny) of Prescott, Ariz.; sister-in-law Pat Hodge of Hope; numerous nieces and nephews; and friends she considered family. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Proctor Funeral Home with burial at Riddick Cemetery in Troy. Visitation will be Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Proctor Funeral Home.
