Sibley’s Obituary The death of Mr. Sibley West, age 97, occurred Saturday, February 8, 2020. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 12th at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Moores Funeral Home. Burial will be private in the Coopers Cemetery. Mr. Sibley was a native and life-long resident of Milledgeville. He was the first Forest Ranger to serve in Baldwin County. He served as an MP in the United States Army during World War II. He then worked in dairy business for several years. In 1962 he went to work at Central State Hospital as Director of Farm Operations and retired as Director of Housekeeping Service in 1986. After retiring he spent time on his family farm as well as helping neighbors and friends. Mr. Sibley was preceded in death by his father and mother, Howard and Vivian Wilkinson West, his wife of over 75 years, Mary Sue Hawthorne West, his brother O.B. West and two sisters Martha Gladin and Ruth Avant and a granddaughter Shellie Smith Polimeni. He was a member of Hardies Chapel Church of Christ in Gordon. Survivors include his daughter Pat Smith of Eatonton his son Johnny West (Lurline) of Milledgeville; two brothers Ralph West of Milledgeville and James West of Vidalia, a sister Alice Ryle of Winston Salem, NC; four grandchildren: Melanie Wilson, Bryan Smith, Brandon West, and Claire West Hogue, and thirteen great grandchildren also survive. Family visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Moores Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Hardies Chapel Church of Christ, 100 Hardies Chapel Lane, Gordon, GA 31031 or to the Coopers Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 100 Coopers Church Rd.
