Shirley Ann Stephenson Greene of Highland Park, NJ passed away on January 14, 2020. Shirley was born in 1952 in New Brunswick, NJ to parents Eddie Stephenson and Jessie Stephenson. She was an outstanding student leader with many friends, hobbies, and talents. After graduating from Highland Park High School in 1970, she married Melvin Greene of Montclair, NJ. Together they had 3 daughters, Dinia Greene Covington (Zaron, deceased), Charmell Greene Slaughter (Johnnie), and Heather Greene Williams (Shirman). Mel enlisted in the Army in 1974 and for the next 22 years the Greenes lived in South Carolina, Arizona, New Jersey, Italy, Oklahoma, and Germany before returning to NJ and ultimately retiring to Willingboro. An excellent homemaker, Shirley was appreciated for her quick wit, her gracious hospitality, and above all, her dedication to always speaking the unvarnished truth with love and humor. She touched many lives and will be dearly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, her younger sister Pamela Stephenson, son-in-law Zaron Covington, and her beloved nephew Derrick Stephenson. She leaves behind her husband, 3 daughters, 2 sons-in-law, 4 grandchildren (Zalina, Lyric, Saida, and Amani), 2 great-grandchildren (Zariah and Omar), 2 brothers (Nathaniel Stephenson (Karen) and Eddie Stephenson), sister-in-law Madeline Marshall, 3 aunts, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. Shirley Greene’s memorial service will be held at 11am on February 3 at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, 771 Somerset St, Somerset, NJ.
