Obituary Mrs. Phyllis Elaine (Greene) Mueller, 90, of Wapello, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. She was born on August 8, 1929, in Painesville, Ohio, to the late Paul David, Sr. and Susie Lillian Peck Greene. Her father, as Secretary of YMCA, moved the family to Watertown, SD, and then to Mediapolis, IA, before Phyllis was 3 years old. Phyllis was the Salutatorian in the graduating class of 1946 at Mediapolis High School. She was married in Burlington on February 24, 1952, to Henry Phillip Humiston and they divorced in 1986. On June 3, 1989, in Wapello, she married Clyde Lawrence Mueller and he survives. Phyllis had many interests including ballroom dancing, square & round dancing, line & country dancing, camping, crossword puzzles, word games, table games, sewing, and being a ski mom and wife. Her family was very important to her. Her first jobs were as receptionist and general office work at McKesson-Robbins and Churchill Wholesale Drugs, then Northwestern Cabinet Company in Burlington, Iowa. Phyllis moved to Davenport, Iowa, and worked as a receptionist with Bendix Aviation. She returned to Burlington to care for her ailing mother until she passed away. She worked at Sylvania in Burlington in the office and ran the teletype in the front office. Later, she worked in the Louisa County Treasurer’s Office and retired after 27 years as Deputy Clerk of Court of Louisa County. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Wapello. Survivors include her husband, Clyde L. Mueller of Wapello; daughters Pamela (Ken) Dies of Lebanon, IN, and Carol (Bill) Smith of Rolla, MO; son Alan (Kathy) Humiston of St. Paul, MN; step-sons Terry (Lynn) Mueller of Malvern, IA, and Wayne (Susan) Mueller of Eldora, IA; step-daughters Tammy Andersen of Harlen, IA, and Teresa Mueller of Iowa City, IA; grandchildren Michelle Dies, Bridget Dies, and Andrew Humiston; step-grandchildren Jamie Dies, David Dies, Christopher Smith, Marcus Watson, Mandii de Garcia, Brighton Mueller, Lydia Mueller, Alex Mueller, David Post and Devin Post; step-great-grandchildren Olivia Dies and Nash Watson; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Paul D. Greene, Jr., and infant Warren Allen Greene, and 2 step-great-grandchildren, Noah Watson and Leo de Garcia. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory. A Celebration of her life will be announced this spring.
