Ross 94, Long time Douglas resident passed away Sunday February 9, 2020 at the Haven of Sierra Vista. Mrs. Ross was born April 17, 1925 in Globe, Az. to Francisco Carpio and Gertrudes Vargas Bracamonte. Prior to coming to Douglas, in 1963, she graduated from Globe High School in 1943. Her first job in Globe was at JC Penny as a Window Dresser where she learned to decorate department store windows and her love for fashion began. She was a perfectionist when it came to being a seamstress. She could dart socks, hem and zipper pants and patch any tear. During her years in Globe she was a Guadalupana at Holy Angels Catholic Church and sang in the choir. She was a Candy Striper at the Local Hospital, in Globe. She was an ace at Geography, during WWII, after her five brothers had been drafted, she took care of her parents and would read maps, lay them out on the kitchen table and show her parents where each son was stationed while they were Abroad. Her brother Lee once said, ” Mary wrote a letter to all her brothers every week. It was a blessing every time I got a letter from the folks back home.” It was a connection Lee would remember for the rest of his life. Later in life Mrs. Ross met and married Eugene G. Ross and moved to Douglas in 1963. In the early 70s, Mrs. Ross was a volunteer at Sarah Marley School until she was hired to work in the reading program, where she continued to work until she retired from Douglas Public Schools, after 15 years. Because she had a love and passion for children, upon retirement she continued to work at Lestonoc Pre-School for a few years, until she began to spend time with her own Grandchildren, Alyxis and Miguel. She traveled to every baseball game and dance recital she could. Mrs. Ross became known around Douglas as the “Little old Lady, in the big Suburban!” Mrs. Ross belonged to “Los Viejos Amigos” with her husband Eugene. She loved to travel in her suburban to the Casinos in Tucson with her family and friends. She watched Wheel of Fortune faithfully and was an avid Diamondbacks Fan. Mrs. Ross loved all her friends dearly and she will be greatly missed, they were her extended family. Mrs. Ross would always say, ” I was born in Globe, but I am from Douglas.” and that is what she truly meant, though she had wonderful memories of family back in Globe, she loved her Douglas family, from the bottom of her heart. She was devoted to saying the rosary daily and belonged to both Immaculate Conception and St. Luke’s catholic churches. She participated in several woman’s club at both churches and was always ready to serve. Mrs. Ross was preceded in death by her Parents and five brothers and her loving Sister-in-Law Angelina; Her Loving husband of 40 years, Eugene G. Ross; a step daughter and her husband Gilbert and Consuelo Jayme; three step grandchildren Gabriel Jayme, Jennifer Ross and Michael Ross and one Great Granddaughter Jennifer Daily. She also missed many dear friends especially Barbara Zuazueta, Ernestina Vejar, Amelia Young and all the Young family that always loved and supported her who had gone before her. There are many other friends she cared for deeply who have gone on to their eternal rest. She is survived by her Daughter Kristine Marie Trujillo (Michael, of Hereford); her Granddaughter’s Alyxis Kristina Trujillo, Kendra Renee Trujillo and Grandson Miguel Angel Trujillo, all of Hereford, AZ.; two Great Grandsons Quincy Salvador Trujillo, and Lincoln Feliziano Trujillo; a step son and daughter-in-law Ramiro and Patricia Ross of Warren, AZ.; seven step Grandchildren and their extended families and several step great-great grandchildren; her nephew Gary Bracamonte (Margie) and their daughters Carla and Amber of Whittier, CA.; nieces Evelyn Mesa of Monteray Park, CA., and Diane Dale of Chino Hills, CA.
