Obituary Mary Frances (Lachnitt) Stevens, 92, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died February 21, 2020, at Clarrisa Cook Hospice of natural causes. Mary Frances was born in Burlington, Iowa, on Oct. 4, 1927, to German immigrants Agnes and Frank Lachnitt. The family was devout Catholics. Herbert was her older brother and only sibling. Even though they were eight years apart, Mary Frances and Herbert remained close to the end. Mary Frances married Everett Collier Stevens on Nov. 3, 1951. They were married for 54 years until his death in 2006. Mary Frances worked as a dental hygienist and at Winegard Antenna Company. She valued a strong work ethic. She loved making afghans, quilts, and other crafts. She would work on her projects while watching “Matlock” or “Murder, She Wrote” on her VCR. A few years ago, Mary Frances chose to move to Bettendorf to be closer to her adult children. This was hard for her, as she had spent 55 years at the same location in Burlington. But she brought many comforts of home, including her giraffe collection. “Grandma” or “Aunt Mary” will be missed by her family, including her children, Kurt Stevens, and his partner Scott Fieker, and Karen Nelson, and her husband Gary Nelson. She had one granddaughter, Kathryn Ann Kompas (Christopher Shields) of St. Cloud, Minnesota. Her extended family on the Lachnitt side included nieces and nephews Michael Lachnitt (Georgia), Leeanne Lachnitt Fenton, Marilynn Lachnitt, and Karla Lachnitt Schuff (Joel), Survivors on the Stevens side include brother-in-law Edwin Stevens, and nieces and nephews Duane Stevens (Carole), Carita Stevens Powers, Gloria Stevens Rissman (Richard), Jo Samuels, Roger Samuels (Margaret), and Roberta Samuels (Evan). Mary Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Everett, Herbert and Martha Lachnitt, her son-in-law Michael Naab, Helen Stevens, Larry Powers, Geneva Stevens Samuels, Robert Samuels, and Ron Samuels.
