LaVetta’s Obituary LaVetta Janicek age 90, died Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Cottonwood House in Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Wednesday, February 12 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in rural Bellwood with Rev. Leo Seiker celebrating the Mass. Visitation is on Tuesday from 5-7 pm at St. Joseph Church with a 7:00 Vigil service to follow. Visitation continues on Wednesday from 9:30 am until service time at the church. Interment is in St. Joseph Cemetery-Bellwood. There will be a luncheon at St. Peter’s Church in Bellwood following the services. LaVetta Helen (Novacek) Janicek was born December 11, 1929 on a farm North of Octavia, Nebraska to Milo and Helen (Bruner) Novacek. She attended Octavia High School and graduated from Schuyler High School in 1946. LaVetta worked at the Top-Notch Café in David City and as a dental assistant in Schuyler before being united in marriage to Gerald Janicek on February 1, 1951 in Schuyler. She helped her husband on the farm and also worked at Columbus Manor and at Holiday Inn in Columbus. She and Gerald loved to dance, especially to “In the Mood”. It became their song. She also enjoyed gardening and sewing. LaVetta was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church (Bellwood) Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Aquinas Home School Association and held various offices in each. She also helped deliver Meals on Wheels.
