Obituary James Robert VandenBoom, age 61, of Kent, died on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at his home. James was born May 23, 1958 in East Cleveland, to Robert and Patricia VandenBoom. He graduated from Shaker Heights High School, earned his BFA in Sculpture from Cleveland Institute of Art in 1983 and a Master’s Degree from Kent State University in 1991. He held Teaching Assistant positions in Cleveland, Kent and Locoste France. He focused his sculpting in carving, fabrication and casting processes. He served on the Board of Standing Rock Cultural Arts Center in Kent. Jim is survived by brothers, William J. VandenBoom and John C. (Sz Ya) VandenBoom; sisters, Amy (Mike) Lopez and Susan O’Leary. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Robert and Patricia VandenBoom. Calling hours will be held 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, where memorial services will follow at 6:30 PM.
