Obituary Frank “Ted” Koehler Jr., 88, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2020 at the Mont Marie Healthcare Center in Holyoke. Born in Holyoke, May 1, 1931, he was the son of the late Frank T. Koehler Sr. and Katherine (Smith). Ted was a graduate of South Hadley High School in 1948 and graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1953 with a degree in chemistry. Following graduation, Ted accepted a job working in research and development at National Starch Co. in Plainfield, NJ. He worked as a supervisor in the Specialty Chemicals division until retiring in 1990. He vacationed in Cape Cod with family and friends for many years before retiring to Dennis until 2019 when he moved to West Springfield. He was president of the Plainfield, NJ Jaycees, served as board director of Suburban Exchange (a local publishing company), United Community Fund’s business division and second ward chairman of the Republican Committee. He loved cooking, gardening, fishing, reading, playing the harmonica and mouth harp and telling jokes. Ted also spoke fluent German and French. He leaves his wife, Erline (LaRoche), his children, Christopher Koehler (Patricia) of Dennis, Elizabeth Silverstein (William) of Walpole, NH, grandchildren, Jordan Silverstein (Christine), Greer Ward (Austin), Kimberly Matthews (Sean), Scott Koehler (Cassandra), Bryan Koehler (Emily), great grandchildren, Isaiah Ward and Marlowe Ward, several nieces and nephews, stepdaughters, Barbara Rouillard and her husband William Braddon who was Ted’s best friend, Elizabeth Wisner and stepson, David Gallant. Ted was predeceased by his wife Joan (Chapdelaine) Koehler, a brother Carlton Koehler and 2 sisters, Barbara Elis and Janice Fitzer. The Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
