Obituary Mr. J. B. “Bunk” Suttles, age 86, of Nebo, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Autumn Care of Marion after several months of declining health. J. B. was born and raised right here in these North Carolina mountains which he and his wife Marcelle loved to travel before she passed away six years ago. He was a son of the late William R. Suttles and Eula Mae Gouge Suttles and was born on November 4, 1933. Mr. Suttles served his country faithfully in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and spent most of his career following his military service as a Superintendent in the construction business. He was a member of Cane Creek Baptist Church. In addition to his wife of 58 years, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Freddie Brown Gott, and his brother, Bill Suttles. He always had a smile on his face even in his worst and sickest days, and he loved the Lord and enjoyed listening to gospel and bluegrass music. J. B. will be missed greatly by his loving family and friends. Surviving are three children, Debbie Hill (Paul) of Dysartsville, Robin Duke (Gary) of Pleasant Gardens and Jay B. Suttles (Michelle) of Dysartsville; a sister, Willie Williams (James) of Marion; a sister-in-law, Betty Suttles; seven grandchildren, David, Candice, Nathan, Jessica, Hannah, Sarah and Manoah; four great-grandchildren, Jordan, Haley, Brooklyn and Gabe; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. at Cane Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Camp and Rev. Shawn Davis officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow on Friday at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his beloved Marcelle.
