Delbert’s Obituary Delbert Richard Phillips, age 89, of Beaver, WV passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley. Born on October 12, 1930 at Hamlet, WV, he was the son of the late Burgess Phillips and Eva Akers Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a retired heavy equipment operator for Sam McCallister Construction Company. He was a US Army Veteran, was of the baptist faith, and a member of the UMWA. Mr. Phillips enjoyed working in his greenhouse raising his own plants, gardening, and feeding deer, squirrel and birds at his home. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Virginia Wright and Donnie Osborne, by brothers, Oatie, Archie, and Howard Phillips. Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Margaret Lilly Phillips; two sons, Eric Phillips (Angela) of Daniels, and Ivan Phillips (Janice) of Flat Top Lake; four daughters, Beverly Meadows (J.E.) of Beckley, Barbara Martin (Barry) of Beaver, Brenda Thompson (Sonny) of Beaver, and Beth DePolo (Tommy) of Beckley. Sister, Carol Pace (Lee) of Beaver; brothers, Benny Phillips (Brenda) of Grandview, Lloyd Phillips of Grandview, and Lionel Phillips (Sue) of Grandview. Seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and five step great grandchildren, another great granddaughter due in March, along with many nieces and nephews also survive. Private graveside rites and burial for family members will be held at Kidwell Cemetery at Table Rock on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 1 PM with Rev. Greg Lilly officiating.
