Big Stone Gap, Virginia Betty W. Berchinsky, 90, passed away Monday, January 13, 2020 at the Hermitage in Roanoke, VA. She was born July 22, 1929 and lived most of her life in Big Stone Gap until recently moving to Roanoke to be closer to her family. She graduated from Appalachia High School in Appalachia, VA and worked at First National Bank in Appalachia, VA for over 30 years. She was a long-term member of East Stone Gap Methodist Church and loved Christ. She was an avid sports fan and an accomplished bowler. We will miss her sweet spirit, generosity, sense of humor and her quick wittedness! She was loved by all that had the privilege to meet her. You will be missed Ms. Betty, very, very much. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 50 years, John J. Berchinsky of Big Stone Gap; Parents, Larkin & Maude Winstead; sisters, Thelma W Carter, Barbara Ann Winstead; and brother, Glen and Wife (Bobbie) Winstead, and several other siblings. She is survived by Margaret W Stultz and her daughter, Tracy L Stultz, both of Roanoke VA. Nephew, Ed Winstead (Karen) of Boones Mill, VA ; Niece, Tammy Cox (Dennis) of Kingsport, TN; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends whom she loved so dearly. Special thanks to Karen Winstead (Niece-in-law), we couldn’t have done it without her over the past few months. We would also like to thank the staff at The Hermitage for the special care they provided to Betty in her final days. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your favorite charity in memory of Betty & John Berchinsky. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Roy A. Green Funeral Home, Appalachia. Services will follow immediately in the funeral home chapel officiated by Rev. Norman Clark. Burial will follow in the American Legion Cemetery.
