Robert’s Obituary Robert H. Ritterbush, a long time Architect and Engineer in Bismarck, passed away at his home in Bismarck with his wife of 68 years at his side on December 17, 2019. Cremation has already taken place. An open house in celebration of his life will be held on Friday, January 10, 2020 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Great Hall at McCabe Methodist Church. Bob was born in the original Bismarck Hospital on November 15, 1926 to Robert A. and Ruth (Nichols) Ritterbush. He graduated from Bismarck High School (class of ’44) and received an engineering degree from Purdue University, a masters degree in engineering and a degree in architecture from the U. of Michigan. He served in the military from July 1944 to July 1946 and from January 1952 to June 1953. After his military service and education he returned to Bismarck to practice architecture and engineering with his father. His firm designed many buildings in Bismarck and the surrounding area including most of Medcenter One, ND Capitol Addition, Century High School, Bismarck Cancer Center, and the original buildings of Basin Electric, Holiday Inn, Montana Dakota Utilities, Bismarck Civic Center, and Bismarck High School, to name a few. In 1951 he married Julia Walker in Michigan and they had 3 daughters, Lisa (Verden) Anderson of Walcott, ND; Jan (Kyle) Joersz of Bismarck; Lauren (Brad Logan) Ritterbush of Manhattan, KS; and 5 grand children and 5 great grand children. He was a member of numerous boards and organizations including the American Institute of Architects, Professional Engineers Society, Chamber of Commerce, Masonic Lodge, Rotary, Medcenter and Sanford Foundation, and Cancer Center Foundation. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister and her husband, Elizabeth and Stanley Allen.
