Norman’s Obituary Mr. Norman William Simmons, age 95, of Rome, GA, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2019, at a local hospital. Mr. Simmons was born in Lindale, GA on March 14, 1924, the son of the late Harrison Simmons and the late Permilla Reese. He joined the United States Navy and served his country during World War II. He served 20 years in the Navy. After his naval service, he went to work with the United States Postal Service, delivering mail, walking most of his mail route. He was a member of New Armuchee Baptist Church. Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife, Betty Jewell Freeman Simmons; his children, Linda Cawa (Sal) of Concord, NC, Sherry White (Jerome) of Rome, GA and Jerry Simmons of Oxford, GA; his grandchildren, Tammy Whitson (Daryl), Angela Cawa (Michael King), Sam Cawa (Maureen), Jeremy White (Erika), Ben White, Tori Simmons and Aspen Simmons; his great grandchildren, Reese Schiff (Alexis), Ashley Cawa, Lindsay Cawa, Whitman Groves (Anne Peele), Alex Groves, Dean White and Analeigh White. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2019, at 2:00 pm in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens at the gazebo with Dr. David Howard officiating. The American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard will be presenting military honors. A reception will follow at Lakeview Baptist Church, 80 Salem Drive, Rome, GA 30165.
