Obituary for Martha Sue Grubbs (Hayes) Martha Sue Tester Grubbs, age 70, Erwin, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Piney Flats and lived most of her life in Boones Creek before moving to Erwin in 2011. Martha is a daughter of the late Oscar Guy Hayes and Anna Kate Surcey Hayes. She was a homemaker. Martha was of the Christian Faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Ann Tester-Knight and one brother, Oscar Hayes, II. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of four years, Gregory Paul Grubbs, Erwin; one granddaughter, Kendra Knight, Johnson City; three sisters: Patty Kiser, Wanda McQuillen and Tammy Yarber, all of Alaska; two sisters-in-law: Phyllis Harrell and Lynda Phillips, both of Erwin; special friend and father of her daughter, Bruce Tester; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 PM on Friday, January 3, 2020 at Southside Freewill Baptist Church. Reverend Kevin Laws and Chaplain Chuck Shipley will officiate at the 7:00 PM Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to help defer funeral expense to: Robert Ledford Funeral Home, 720 Ohio Avenue, Erwin, TN 37650.
