Kenneth’s Obituary Kenneth William Bowlen, Sr. age 89 of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Carroll House in Carrollton, surrounded by his family. Kenneth was born on February 19, 1930, in Ray County, to Ralph Leslie and Velvia Grace (Narramore) Bowlen. He attended Costner Country School and graduated from Carrollton High School in 1948. In 1949 at the Norborne Baptist Church, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. On July 6, 1949, Kenneth married Vivian Ann DeMint in Independence, Missouri. During his working career, he was employed by the following: O.W. Thomas Ford Garage in Carrollton, Ford Motor Company, where he completed 32 hours at Kansas City District Service School along with earning a Service Training Certificate in Fordomatic Transmission. He then moved to Abilene, Kansas to work for Lorenz Ford Garage. In 1952, he became interested in racing go-carts which led into stock car racing and later into modified stock cars. Kenneth raced in several towns including Topeka, Abilene, Wichita, Russell, and Hutchinson all in Kansas, and Marshall, Sedalia, Moberly, and Trenton in Missouri. He was recognized in 1962, as the Missouri State Racing Champion. In 1957 he moved his family back to Carrollton, Missouri, where he opened Bowlen’s Garage and was instrumental in starting local racing in the area. In 1975, he bought what had been his family farm near Norborne, Missouri, where he did row crop farming until he retired in 2012. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting deer and turkey, as well as fishing. His family knew him to be quite the tinkerer of all things if anything was broken; without a doubt, he could fix it! Kenneth was a member of Wakanda Lodge #52 AF&AM, Carrollton, Missouri, and had served in all chairs including Past District Deputy Grand Master from 1974 until 1976. Kenneth was a past member of International Order of the Odd Fellows, held a White Belt in Judo, had served as Secretary of Trotter Township, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carrollton. Kenneth is survived by his wife of 70 years, Vivian Ann (DeMint) Bowlen of the home; two daughters, Doris Phillips of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Deloris Sprock and husband Frank of Trenton, Illinois; one son, Kenneth William Bowlen, Jr., and wife Carmen of Carrollton, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Roxanne Cook and husband Cameron of Bozeman, Montana, Robert Scott Phillips of Las Vegas, Nevada, Geoffrey Sprock and wife Laura of Trenton, Illinois, Jessica Kate Eversgerd and husband Chris of Trenton, Illinois, Andrew Thomas Bowlen and wife Amanda of Carrollton, Missouri, Tyler Matthew Bowlen of Chillicothe, Missouri, Carmelle Harris of St. Louis, Missouri, Chanelle Harris of St. Louis, Missouri, Jeremi Olvera and significant other, Regina Weeks of Carrollton, Missouri, and Christen Bernard of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Velvia Bowlen; two daughters, Shirley Ann Bowlen, and Charlotte Ann (Bowlen) Harris; one son-in-law, Clark (Corkey) Phillips; two sisters, Mildred Irene (Bowlen) Fancy, and Wilma Jane (Bowlen) Boehmer; one brother, Ralph Lee Bowlen; and one grandson, William Palmer (Bill) Phillips. Please join the family as they receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, December 26, 2019, at Bittiker Funeral Home, 1201 North 65 Highway, Carrollton, Missouri. Masonic Service will follow at 8:00 p.m. provided by Wakanda Lodge #52 AF&AM. Kenneth would have received his 50-year pin on January 29, 2020, which will be presented to his wife Vivian during the Masonic Service. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, December 27, 2019, at Bittiker Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairhaven Cemetery, Norborne, Missouri.
