Harry J. Patterson, III – age 88, of Cape May, NJ previously from Upper Darby, PA died December 28, 2019. Survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Barbara (née Dorsey). Devoted father of Maureen (George) Beebe, Colleen (the late John) Campbell, Barbara (the late James) Foster, Patricia (the late Shawn) Buchanan, Kathleen (John) Walsh, Harry J. Patterson IV, John Patterson, Martin (Deborah) Patterson and his pride and joy 20 grandchildren (his littlest angel Theresa) and 20 great-grandchildren. Survived by brother Jack (Joyce) Patterson, predeceased by brother Jim (the late Carol) Patterson. He counted his blessing and always looked forward to family celebrations and his children and grandchildren’s visits. He was happiest with a house filled with his kids and grandchildren and cherished each moment with them. Harry worked at Bell Telephone for 26 years and then went to work for the U.S. Government Services Administration before retiring in 1994. Committed to service he attained the rank of Major in the U.S. Army proudly serving his country for 25 years. He served on the Republican State Committee of Pennsylvania, the Delaware County Economic Development Council, was Chairman of the Upper Darby Home Rule Committee, a Past President and Board Member of the Upper Darby School Board, and a member of Upper Darby Zoning Board. Proud of his Irish dual citizenship, Harry was a founding member and Past Treasurer of the AOH All Irish Martyrs Cape May County Division 2 in Marmora, NJ. He also created a weekly Celtic Music Show in Cape May County and became a Radio personality on WCFA 101.5 in Cape May, NJ where he hosted over 300 weekly shows. He loved the arts and acted in community theatre, enjoyed watercolor painting and working on the last great mystery novel. He loved spending time in Cape May, NJ and Key West, FL with family and friends. A celebration of Harry’s life will be on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Our Lady Star of The Sea Church, 525 Washington St., Cape May, with a visitation from 10am until 10:50am and Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11am. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Cape May NJ.
