Florence “Clare” Hankenhof, 88, passed away on December 26, 2019. She was born on October 13,1931 to Harold and Florence (Dunnigan) Manion in Toledo, Ohio. She attended St. Agnes Elementary School and was a graduate of St. Ursula Academy, Class of 1949. A longtime resident of North Lockwood Avenue, Clare was an active member of St.Catherine of Siena Church and was a member of the Associates of St. Margeurite d’Youville (Grey Nuns of charity). Her work life included being a physician assistant and receptionist for Dr. Philip Stiff Sr. and Dr. Leo Clark. She also worked in retail at both the Miracle Mile and Westgate Hallmark stores, Food Town and Target. Clare was passionate advocate for children and the disadvantaged. She volunteered for Hope for Families at St. Vincent Medical Center supporting substance abusing women and their families and was an instructor for the Family Child Abuse Prevention Program for first and third grades at TPS and parochial schools. Clare was the director of the Regina Coeli Latchkey Program for 17 years. She was an active,involved mother to her 6 sons, offering her time and talents to their many school activities at St. Catherine’s School and Central Catholic High School. She enjoyed reading, music and arts and crafts. Clare is survived by her children, Eugene Jr. (Mary) Hankenhof, Robert (Anne) Hankenhof, Thomas (Terry) Hankenhof, James (Barbara) Hankenhof, Jeffrey (Mary) Hankenhof and Steven (Kim) Hankenhof; brothers, James Manion and Thomas (Nancy) Manion; sisters, Sr. Joan Manion and Kate Ryan; eight grandchildren, Katherine (Nicholas) Mahinis, Evgenia (Savvas) Damalos, Robert (Anne) Hankenhof, Megan Hankenhof, Michael (Robert) Hankenhof, Kathleen (Kristin) Hankenhof, James Jr. (Tierney) Hankenhof, Matthew Hankenhof, Jonathan (Karina) Hakenhof and two great grandchildren, Theo Mahinis and Antoni Damalos. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene E. Hankenhof, Sr.; brothers, Harold Jr. (Barbara) Manion and Robert Manion; brother-in-law, Frank Ryan; sister-in-law, Dorothy Manion. A viewing will be held at 9:00 AM, Saturday, January 4, 2020 at St. Catherine of Siena Church followed by a mass at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Clare and her family want to thank all the staff of U.S. Renal Care and NWO Hospice. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Catherine’s Parish or Hospice of NW Ohio.
