Mr. Dale Lee Burmeister, age 81, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019 following complications from a brain tumor. He was born in DeWitt, Iowa on January 19, 1938 to Alfert and Edna (Hopp) Burmeister. Dale graduated from Valparaiso University in 1960 with a BA in Psychology and Business and a minor in Economics. He was employed in sales and merchandising for 40 years prior to his retirement. Dale enjoyed staying active; traveling, gardening, and woodworking were some of the many activities he enjoyed. He will be remembered fondly for the special bird houses, rocking horses, and pouting chairs he handcrafted for family members, and for his ability to make people laugh with his dry sense of humor. Most importantly, Dale loved his family and cherished the time he spent with them. On June 7, 1958, Dale married the former Margaret A. Cottrell and she survives him along with their children, Kirk M. (Kathy) Burmeister, I. and Lisa K. (Tim) Darcy; five grandchildren, Kirk M. (Amanda) Burmeister, II., Kathryn G. (Michael) Moores, Kyle L. (Erin) Burmeister, Kara R. (Mike) Thompson, and Brad R. Darcy; eight great-grandchildren, Hailey, Mya, Jonah Moores, Maggie and Clara Burmeister, Lily Darcy, Mike Thompson Jr., and Emmett Darcy; sister-in-law, JoAnn Burmeister, several nephews; and will especially be missed by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bert and Glenys Bertolozzi. Dale was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Burmeister of DeWitt, IA. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Grace Lutheran Church (2651 Shettler Road, Muskegon, MI 49444) with Rev. Timothy J. Winkel officiating.
