CHARLES WILLIAM DUNLAP July 04, 1936 – December 13, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Upload Photo| Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Charles William Dunlap or “CW” died at the Heroes Harbor Hospice in Cleveland, Ohio after a five month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 83 years young. He is survived by his five children – Connie Godfrey, Cedric Dunlap, Gregory Dunlap, Charlette Phipps and Wendi Dunlap, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and nine siblings. Charles was born on July 4, 1936 to Richard and Bert Dunlap in Willacoochee, Georgia. He was the second oldest of fourteen siblings. At the age of 5, he went to live with his maternal grandmother Alice Fuller in Gladys, Georgia. He served in the 205th Air Police Squadron in the United States Airforce from 1954 – 1957, and received the National Defense Service Medal. He was an Atomic Veteran exposed to radiation during active duty, and battled lifelong symptoms. He married Jean Fussell in July 1957, and moved to Hackensack, NJ where he lived for about 50 years. In early 2000, he settled in Ohio and made Lakewood his home until his death. He also attended the Tyler Barber College, the first national chain of barber colleges for African Americans. A dedicated Christian, he was a Deacon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in South Hackensack, NJ. He later served as a Deacon at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Hackensack, NJ. The funeral for Mr. Dunlap will be held on Friday, January 3rd at Lakewood Baptist Church in Lakewood, OH. The viewing will start at 9:30AM followed by the funeral at 10:30AM. He will be buried at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. There will be a Memorial Service at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Hackensack, NJ on Friday, January 10th at 6PM.
