Bernard Lester Kosnik, Age 90. Born on March 17th, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan. Bernard was the fifth oldest of thirteen children born to Anastazy (Lester) Kosnik and Angeline Gorzenski. He grew up in Detroit and attended Corpus Christi grade school and graduated from Pershing High School. After high school, Bernard enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War. After serving in the military, he met Helen Louise Futty and they were married on May 5th, 1951. He attended the University of Detroit and received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Afterwards, he began his 37-year career at Chrysler, and later achieved a master’s degree in 1957 in Business Administration. Bernard and Louise raised their nine children in Warren, Michigan in the house that he built with his brothers. They were devoted Catholics and active members of St. Mark Catholic Church. He was a lector and a catechist, and he and Louise did marriage encounter for the Archdiocese of Detroit. He also taught descriptive geometry for the University of Detroit. Bernard was known as the family baker, enjoyed wood-working, and loved investing and researching stocks. He was very proud of his Polish heritage and spoke the Polish language fluently. Bernard was successful in so many aspects of his life, but his true passion and love was his family. He was devoted to providing for his wife, children and grandchildren and he will be sorely missed.
