Barbara “Bobbie” Lee (Shires) Townshend, age 80, of Brandywine, MD, formerly a long-time resident of Lottsburg, Virginia, passed away on December 7, 2019. Born on August 20, 1939 in Elkton, Maryland to the late George L. Shires and Myrtle L. Shires Craumer. Bobbie was known for her big heart and love of helping children. She devoted 30 years as a teacher’s aide in the Prince George’s County public school system. She enjoyed baking, puzzles, painting, bible study, and bingo. She perfected her famous fruitcake recipe and enjoyed sharing it with family and friends. She loved holidays and any chance to spend time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” W. Townshend and sister Georgie Day. Bobbie is survived by her sister Dorothy Dolan; brother Harry Shires; son John R. Townshend; daughter Jane L.T. Vogt (Mark); grandchildren Carrie L. Lewis (Ben), Jessica L. Lapin (Mike), M. Alexander Vogt, Samuel D. Vogt (Hailey); and one great-granddaughter. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 13500 Baden Westwood Road, Brandywine, MD 20613. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital. Interment will be at a later date.
