Nelda’s Obituary Nelda Compton, a loving mother, and grandmother entered to her heavenly home on the morning of Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the age of 84. She was born on March 1, 1935 to Bill and Gladys (Young) Dunegan in Albany, Oklahoma. Nelda married Daniel W. Compton Jr. September 12, 1960, becoming a proud Air Force wife. Nelda and Daniel lived in Spain and traveled extensively before retiring in 1968, they then moved home to Yuba, Oklahoma. Nelda was a talented seamstress in her community creating many different types of garments; wedding dresses, western clothes and baby clothes. She operated a grocery store in Yuba for many years and she lovingly cared for her family along with helping on the farm. Nelda was a cook for many years at Red River Fishing Hole, The Dock, and The Kiwanis Club of Bonham. She was truly a Proverbs 31 mother. Nelda was saved and baptized at Yuba Baptist Church in 1969, later joining the Kemp Baptist Church. She loved a good basketball or baseball game, attending goat shows, and dance recitals, anything her grandkids and great grandkids did she attended and enjoying every minute of it. Nelda was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Nelda knew in her heart that her greatest accomplishments and blessings were her children and family. Nelda is survived by her cherished children; Jerry and wife Fay Dowd of Bonham, Texas, Tommy and wife Debbie Dowd of Yuba, Oklahoma, Hope and husband Marty Hutchings of Yuba, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Daryl and wife Kristy Dowds, Lisa and husband Dean Stanglin, Alan and wife Lindsey Dowd, Jason and wife Casey Dowd, Paige Hutchings and Paxton Hutchings; great-grandchildren: Kyle and wife Ashly Dowd, Riggin Dellis, Rylee Stanglin, Delton Roberts, Hayden Roberts, Finlee Dowd, Jack Dowd, Oliver Dowd, and Jancey Weger; she is also survived by her siblings; Dale Dunegan and Stanley Dunegan, and Sister, Muriel Dansby. Nelda was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Gladys Dunegan, her beloved husband Daniel W. Compton Jr. and cherished son Tommy Dowd. The family would like to thank the staff and therapy at Four Seasons & Oak Ridge for taking such good care of their most precious mother. Family hour for Nelda Compton with be Wednesday, November 6, 2019 from 6-8pm at Kemp Baptist Church in Kemp, Oklahoma. Services will be Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 10am at the Kemp Baptist Church in Kemp, Oklahoma with Roger Spears and Henry Shelton officiating. Her pallbearers will be Daryl Dowd, Dean Stanglin, Alan Dowd, Jason Dowd, Riggin Dellis, Kyle Dowd, Delton Roberts, Hayden Roberts, Jack Dowd and Oliver Dowd. Honorary Pallbearers are Jason Shires, Shane Corbett, Bradley Wilson, Zach Nichols, and Jhet Weger.
