Obituary Fredrick John Sterenberg, beloved child of God, passed away Friday, November 29, 2019. Fred, age 68, was a devoted husband and father and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Elizabeth Sterenberg, and his father-in-law, George Haun. He is survived by his wife, Elyse; his daughter, Laura; his mother-in-law, Betty Haun; his sister, Mary (Norm) Dykstra; his brother, Howard Sterenberg; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kenneth (Rita) Haun, Jonathan (Theresa) Haun, Kathleen (Brian) Broekhuizen, Jeannine (Jon) Rosenstrom; Carolyn (Wayne) Louis. Fred was a wonderful uncle to 22 nieces and nephews. Fred retired in October of 2017 from 16 years of service at Eastern Avenue Christian Reformed Church as their church administrator. He was a graduate of Calvin College and Western Michigan University. Fred was a dedicated Tigers fan, no matter the season’s outcome, and loved spending time laughing and playing music, usually on a deck or porch. Fred loved his family, his friends, his church and his Lord. Visitations will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Eastern Avenue Christian Reformed Church, 514 Eastern Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503, with Rev. Thea Leunk and Rev. Steve DeRuiter officiating. There will be a visitation prior to the service from 3 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Fred, contributions can be made to the Eastern Avenue Christian Reformed Church Benevolence Fund.
