Evelyn Hanke passed away November 15, 2019 at Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa. Evelyn was born October 25, 1921 in Varina, Iowa to Francis and Katherine Krebs. She graduated from St. Columbkille’s High School in Varina and received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Drake University. Evelyn spent 30 years in the field of education, 28 of them in the Ankeny schools. Sixteen of those years were spent teaching and 12 in administration. She retired in 1982. Evelyn is survived by her son Dale (Lynnea); Norma Hanke, widow of her son, Bryce; grandsons Joe Hanke and Luke Hanke; great-grandchildren Conner Hanke, Hannah Hanke and Bryce Hanke; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Bryce; two grandsons, Al and Matthew; three brothers, Larry, Raymond and Jack Krebs; two sisters, Cecilia Carpenter and Ruth Walsh; and several nieces and nephews. Evelyn was a member of the Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny for over 50 years, serving her church in many capacities. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic 510 East First Street, Ankeny, Iowa. Friends may visit with family from 9 AM until service time at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to OLIH, On With Life or Taylor House hospice.
