Chestang November 23, 1941 – November 22, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Carlinell Williams Chestang, affectionally known as Connie, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2019, in Houston, TX. She was a lifelong resident of Mobile, AL. Connie was a 1959 graduate of Central High School. She attended Alabama A&M University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Home Economics in 1963 and her Master of Education degree from Alabama State University in 1986. Connie touched the lives of hundreds of students as an educator. During her career, she taught home economics at William Jones High School, Pineapple, AL; St. Elmo High School, St. Elmo, AL; Alba High School, Bayou La Batre, AL; LeFlore High School, Mobile, AL, and finished her 30+ year career as a middle school guidance counselor at Citronelle Middle School, Citronelle, AL. Connie’s talent as a professional seamstress and interior decorator were well known throughout the community. The role she enjoyed the most was being grandmother to her three beautiful grandchildren. Connie was a long-time parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Connie is preceded in death by her parents Howard and Charlean Williams; three sisters Bettye (late David) Clark, Elaine (Glenn) Moody, Duketta Dixie. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Michael S. Chestang Sr., a devoted daughter Deidra Chestang Smith, a devoted son Michael S. (Tenesha) Chestang, Jr.; grandson, Kearyon Chestang and granddaughters Sydney Smith and Makayla Chestang; one sister Barbara Worthington; one brother Rayford (Diane) Williams; a beloved uncle, Cullen (Helena) DuBose; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. with a Rosary at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2019, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, officiated by Reverend Dominic Oguama, M.S.P., Pastor. Burial will be at the Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Christian Benevolent Funeral Home.
