August 19 1949 September 21 2019
William Franklin “Frank” Rawley, Jr. passed peacefully from this life on September 21, 2019. Born in Greensboro, NC on August 19, 1949, he immediately began to brighten the lives of those he encountered throughout his earthly existence with his robust laughter, big heart, and genuine concern for those fortunate enough to make his acquaintance. Frank never knew a stranger and his eyes radiated a love for life. Frank was pre-deceased by his mother Dorothy Rawley. He is survived by his devoted wife of 26 years, Cheryl Williams-Rawley, and their two faithful companions, Summer and Darby, of the home. Also surviving are his father, Colonel (Ret.) William Rawley, Sr. of Raleigh, NC; two sisters and their spouses, Dorothy Hendricksen (Ron) of Lynchburg, VA, Cathy Brown (BG) of Youngsville, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is a graduate of the Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina. Among Frank’s many accomplishments, he served his country in the United States Army for 22 years, rising from cadet status and retiring as Major. He expressed great talent for engineering, design and anything involving numbers. His passions included textile design, gardening, photography, wildlife, friends, family and travel. The family sends a special thanks to the caregivers at the Acute Care and Palliative Care Units at Virginia Medical College, VCU, Richmond, VA. Frank referred to these compassionate health care professionals as his angels. In accordance with Frank’s wishes, there was no funeral or memorial service. Frank and Cheryl cordially invite family, friends and former co-workers to a Celebration of Life to be held at their home in Providence Forge, VA. The Celebration will begin at 11 AM until 5 PM on Saturday October 5, 2019.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of William Franklin Rawley Jr August 19 1949 September 21 2019.
