Velma Lou’s Obituary Velma Lou Baird, longtime Yale resident gained her wings on October 16, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was born on October 1, 1932 to Edgar and Brooxie (Dudley) Robinson in Niangua, Missouri. She moved to Yale with family at the age of 15. Velma was the loving daughter in the middle of six brothers, three older and three younger. She was definitely a “Lil Mom” figure to the three younger ones. While all of the family was farming or in cotton fields as a little girl she was cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the kids; making sure everything was ready when the rest of the family got home. Velma married the love of her life, Bob Baird on September 2, 1953 in Cushing, Oklahoma. Their union was blessed with three children, Calvin, Sherry, and Robin. She was a devoted homemaker for many years as well as working for the local cafes as a cook. Velma also baby sat many, many children through out her life. She loved children and they loved her. Survivors include her three children, Calvin Baird (Cindy) of Denison, TX, Sherry Pendleton (Bill) of Yale, OK, Robin Baird of Yale, OK; five grandchildren, Clint Faulkner (Christy) of Bristow, OK, Bobbie Reeves (Jay) of Glencoe, OK, Katy Kempf (Dustin Doll) of Tryon, Jackie Baird (Adam Burrow) of Jennings, OK, Preston Baird of Yale, OK, Ralph French (Donna) of Murphy, TX, Jonathan French (Jennifer) of Virginia; great grandchildren, Kaleb, Caileana and Josh Faulkner, Bristow; Sydney Rasmussen, Yale; Erika Rasmussen, Tryon; Cadence, Oakley, and Charlotte Kempf, Tryon; Kaylee Doll, Tryon; Noah Burrow, Jennings; Brad and Tyler Reeves, Glencoe; Cambree Hornback, Glencoe; Torin Bray, Glencoe; Bruce Moore, Stillwater; Ralph, Alyse, and Lucy French, Murphy, TX; Annie, Jonathan, Beatrice, and Harry French, Virginia; sisters in law Glenda Robinson of Cushing, Jeanie Robinson of Glencoe, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob in 1996; her parents; infant sister, Theta Mae; brothers and sisters in law, Andy (Lela), Frank, Tommy (Mary), James, Paul, and John; daughter in law Phyllis; nieces Della, Linda, Gloria, Lisa, Anita; and nephews Jamie, Brett, Jack and Tommy. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2019 at Fellowship Baptist Church, Yale, OK with Brother Mich Dershem officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Yale, OK. Burial will follow services at Lawson Cemetery in Yale, Oklahoma.
