Thomas Charles Ling, 74, died at home on September 29, 2019, as a result of his struggles with cancer. Tom was born and lived in Duluth, Minnesota his entire life. Tom graduated from Duluth Central High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and the University of Wisconsin-Superior respectively. He taught middle school social studies and coached varsity football and baseball at Hermantown High School. After 25 years in education, which included 11 years teaching in Presidential Classroom in Washington, D.C., he enjoyed a second career in the car business. After retiring, he drove courtesy car for Miller Hill Subaru. A passion for art, Tom became an accomplished photographer, traveling the world to photograph some of the most beautiful places on the planet. He returned to create productions to share with family and friends. He was an artist in his soul. The Duluth Camera Club was an opportunity to share the love of photography with other talented photographers. Tom won many awards, but his greatest reward was seeing the joy his photography brought to others. Born to Carl and Evelyn Ling, Tom is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 52 years Judith Rosalie Slaght Ling, his brother David Ling, his sister-in law Bonnie Ling, his deceased sister Claudia Swader, Goddaughter Stacey Arezzo Wempen, Godson Brandon Thomas Ling (deceased), and many cousins and nieces and nephews, and puppy Casey. The family would like to give loving appreciation to all at St. Luke’s Hospital, Home Care, Hospice, the Lay Ministry at First United Methodist Church, Pastor Jeanine Alexander, and devoted friends. A Memorial Service will begin with a Gathering at 5:30 pm, Memorial Service at 6:00pm on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at First United Methodist Church-The Coppertop.
