Steven B. Smith October 30, 1955 – October 19, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Steven Burns Smith was born October 30, 1955 in Enid, Oklahoma to Earl Junior and Eva Marie (Hatfield) Smith. He worshipped at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with his parents. Later, he would become a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fairmont, OK. Steve attended Enid public schools and was a 1973 graduate of Enid High School, where he played football in his sophomore, junior and senior years. Steven spoke often of his fondest memories of growing up on North 13th around the corner from his uncle, Lee and aunt, Betty Smith and his cousins, Linda, Larry and Ladonna. These cousins were the siblings he never had and he loved them with all his heart. He also had fond memories of going to his grandparent’s farm, of the camping trips with his parents, riding his motorcycle up the mountain trails and one night of building the largest campfire ever. The park ranger came to investigate, since it was quite a blaze and found several camp patrons gathered around enjoying it with Steve’s family so he pulled up a chair and enjoyed it with them. At a young age, Steve worked at Evan’s doing what he could to earn money. He could always find a job for after school. In adulthood, he was employed at Union Equity, ProGas and Enid Concrete but his favorite jobs were farming and custom baling. On November 22, 1975, Steve married Cheryl Grimes. To this union, two beautiful daughters were born, Shayla and Kattie Smith. Although their marriage ended, Steve was thankful he and Cheryl remained friends. Steve served on the Fairmont Volunteer Fire Dept for seventeen years. He said he loved the adrenaline rush of a good grass fire or chasing a tornado-producing, super-cell storm. Steve enjoyed helping his girls and their classmates at stock shows. He was very proud of his girls’ hard work. Steve liked to tell of the many stock shows, trips with his girls and their classmates, and the shenanigans that occurred. When Steve met Carol Carter-Hollis, each knew they had met their soulmate. Their love was deep and they were very happy to have found one another. Steve and Carol shared seventeen years of unconditional love and had hopes and dreams of many more years. Although seventeen years was not nearly enough, Steve and Carol were thankful for every moment together. Steve and Carol were married August 14, 2008 in Enid. Steve Burns Smith was preceded in death by his father, Earl; grandparents, Henry Burns and Reta (Campbell) Hatfield and Edna “Myrle” (Harmon) Smith; mother-in-law, Anuella Carter; cousins, Linda Kroeker, Barry Smith and other close cousins and family members.
