Ronald “Ron”‘s Obituary Ronald Alan “Ron” Dahm, age 63, of Shawano, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at UW Hospital in Madison. Ron was born on July 2, 1956 in Waupaca to the late Robert F. and Vera M. (Colburn) Dahm. Ron was a 1975 graduate of Shawano High School, Shawano, and a 1979 graduate of St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, Minnesota, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration. Ron also attended two years at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. Ron served a short time in public service as an administrative intern in Little Falls, Minnesota assisting the city administrator. He also served as the village clerk/treasurer in Marshall, Wisconsin. Ron served on the committee to research and promote the hiring of Shawano’s first city administrator position. The remainder of Ron’s professional career was in retail management. His last assignment was at the Family Dollar Store in Seymour, Wisconsin, as its first store manager in 1999. In 2006, Ron retired due to a disability. Ron received retail management training certificates through Schultz Brothers Company, ShopKo, and Family Dollar. He was also recognized by Family Dollar for excellence in inventory for performance and selection for success training. Ron was responsible in suggesting to place a tornado siren on Shawano’s far east side. He suggested making improvements to the Madison Way/Green Bay Street intersection for safety concerns. Ron was also instrumental in insuring the Olga Brener name be retained on Shawano’s intermediate school. Ron enjoyed traveling, which included areas such as Hawaii, Florida, New York, Washington D.C., Montana, Idaho, North and South Dakota, the Smokies, Branson (several times), Minnesota, Wyoming, Indiana, and Michigan. Ron enjoyed the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Shawano High School sports, especially basketball. Ron was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano where he served as a projectionist and usher. Ron also served on the church Life and Growth Committee and attended Men’s Breakfast meetings to study scripture. Ron is survived by his brother, Pastor Robert C. Dahm, sister-in-law, Susan M. Dahm, and nephew, Shawn Stary. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert F. and Vera M. Dahm. A funeral service will be held for Ron at 11:00 am, on Monday, October 7, 2019, at Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano with Rev. Scott Ludford officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, on Sunday, October 6, 2019, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano, and again on Monday at church from 9:30 am until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church or to the UW Foundation-Our UW Health Transplant Fund, US Bank Lockbox, Box 78807, Milwaukee, WI 53278.
