Glenn George Arthur Zillmer, age 90, of Ulen, MN, died on Monday, October 7, 2019, at Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen, MN.

Glenn was born on June 29, 1929, to Alfred and Mabel (Holland) Zillmer at their home northeast of Gackle, ND. He attended country school while helping his parents work on the family farm. Glenn loved playing baseball in his free time had always claimed to have pitched for the Cleveland Indians (Cleveland, ND that is). On February 8, 1948, Glenn was united in marriage to Irene Wolff. While in Gackle, Irene and Glenn owned and operated a restaurant. Glenn had then moved onto an apprenticeship program with on the job training, as an Electrical Lineman. Over the years, Glenn’s employment took them all over the United States, moving over 44 times. Glenn and Irene were blessed with one daughter, Shirley, followed by two sons, Glenn Richard and Greg. They had purchased a farm and put down roots in Finlayson, MN, when their oldest child, Shirley began high school. With Glenn’s love of farming, he purchased a farm near Ulen in 1973. They made their home on the farm where they raised cattle for many years. Glenn retired from doing construction work in the early 1980’s. Glenn never shied away from hard work and passed that work ethic and love of the farm onto his children. Glenn’s son, Greg, later purchased the farm and he continued helping whenever possible, up until the Spring of 2019.

In his free time away from what he loved the most, farming and his family, Glenn enjoyed reading, the great outdoors and watching tv, especially sporting events. He was also a member at the Maranatha Free Lutheran Church in Ulen.

Glenn is survived by his wife of 71 years, Irene of Ulen; their three children: Shirley (Lee) Uldbjerg of Hutchinson, MN, Glenn “Rick” (Barb) Zillmer of Stillwater, MN, and Greg (Ellen) Zillmer of Ulen; six grandchildren: Krista (Tom) Warren, Tara (Eric) Kilian, Erika Uldbjerg, Christopher (Holly) Zillmer, Jessica Zillmer, and Megan (Ben) Schmitke; nine great-grandchildren: Jacob and Lucas Warren, Rowan, Brenna, and Briley Kilian, Ashley, Anthony, and Nicole Zillmer, and William Schmitke; one brother, Dale (Mary) Zillmer; one sister: Joan Otto; one sister in law: Joyce Zillmer, and many nieces and nephews.
