Mabel’s Obituary Mabel Louise Minor was born in Hagerman, New Mexico on May 16, 1929, to Bayard W. and Helen M. Curry. She attended Hagerman Elementary and graduated from Hagerman High School as Valedictorian in 1947. She attended Eastern New Mexico University a short time before her marriage to Jack R. Nail of Hagerman, New Mexico, on November 27, 1947. Two children, Larry Ross and Nona Ruth, were born to this union. After twenty-eight years of marriage, Mabel divorced and continued her career in banking which began with the First National Bank of Hagerman on February 15, 1956. She advanced to Assistant Vice President, Branch Manager, Loan Officer and was appointed Secretary to the Advisory Board of the United New Mexico Bank of Roswell. Mabel was an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Hagerman, Choir director and Sunday School teacher for many years, and treasurer of the Women’s Circle for fifteen years; a community advocate and member of the Hagerman Cemetery Board. In 1987, she met and married Philip R. Maxey, a certified Dental technician, from Artesia, N.M. She retired after thirty-two years in the banking business, and they moved to Timberon, New Mexico. They returned to Artesia in 1994. Philip died in 2004, and in 2005 Mabel moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma, to be near her daughter and family. Mabel joined the Presbyterian Church Choir where she met John T. Minor. They were married February 10, 2007 and moved to Spanish Cove Retirement Community in 2010. Mabel was active in church work, being an active Elder in the Aretesia Presbyterian Church. Also, she played the piano for the Methodist Clark Memorial Church for ten years, sang in the Artesia Community Choir, directed a community choir in Timberon, N.M., was a charter member of the Choral Arts Society of Northern Oklahoma, and a member of the Spanish Cove Choir. Among her other interests, she completed a two-year course at the Artesia Literacy organization in order to teach tutors to teach English as a second language. She loved oil painting and completed several scrapbooks and genealogy information for her family. Her husband, Dr. John T. Minor, preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Larry Nail and his wife, D’Aun, of Loving, TX; her daughter, Nona Petree and her husband, Allen, of Savannah, TX; her granddaughter, Katie Petree Ramsey and her husband, Dub, of Denton, TX and their three sons, JayR, Devin and Cole; two grandsons, Ross Petree of Savannah, TX and Jake Petree and his wife, Kindra, of Stillwater, OK and their daughter, Jane Rose and son, Dexter Leon. Memorial services will be Saturday, October 26, 10:30am at Chisholm Trail Presbyterian Church, Yukon, OK. Read More
