John’s Obituary John Bertram Foxworthy, of Hondo, passed away on October 28, 2019 in San Antonio at the age of 68 years. He was born July 16, 1951 in San Antonio to Jerald Ray Foxworthy and Beatrice “Bea” Carolyn Wilkins Foxworthy. After graduating from Medina Valley High School in 1969, John worked while attending San Antonio College for two years. He joined the Air Force during the Vietnam Era and served his country for six years. He was honorably discharged on November 4, 1980. Upon completing his military duties, he went to work for Texas Instruments in Austin for a period of time. He subsequently returned to San Antonio to take a position with the Department of Defense at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. He retired and received the Award for Meritorious Civilian Service from the Department of the Air Force for his performance as Senior Engineer, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Cyberspace Systems Division, Directorate of Intelligence, Headquarters Air Combat Command from May 15, 2006 to January 31, 2018. The following quote is from the Citation by Peter J. Lambert, Brigadier General, USAF, Director of Intelligence, “During this period, Mr. Foxworthy’s relentless efforts were responsible for infrastructure engineering of numerous intelligence missions supporting seven intelligence wings and 30 groups worldwide and affecting over 600 Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities. He personally developed the engineering plan for the 480th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing and build out of five Defense Common Ground Stations and three supporting Air National Guard units in eight different locations, enabling posting of 2,380 airmen. Furthermore, he performed over 100 assessments resulting in 40 million dollars executed toward intelligence facility communications upgrades; identified weaknesses, developed and installed solutions across 100 locations worldwide. His superb leadership and intricate engineering skills were instrumental in Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency winning Air Force Organizational Excellence Awards six times over eight years. The distinctive accomplishments of Mr. Foxworthy reflects great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.” John is survived by his brother, Jerald Jay Foxworthy of Castroville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerald R. and Beatrice Foxworthy.
