Emma Mary Mayo was born October 20, 1932 in Macon, North Carolina, to the late Eddie Lee and Maggie Ola Towns. Emma was baptized in a small church in Macon. She graduated from the Warren County Training School in 1950. Shortly after graduating she moved to New Brunswick, NJ and became a Seamtress because of her love for fashion. Emma could bring any room to life with her energetic smile and laughter. She enjoyed helping family and friends and fishing in her spare time. Emma was affectionately known as “Wally” by her family and friends. Toward the latter part of her in life, she became a long distance telephone operator at Bell South for 25 years, prior to retirement. Emma was a resident at Livingston Manor Senior Living in New Brunswick, for over 20 years. She resided with her niece, Simone Gardner, in Browns Mills for a short time, prior to her death. In addition to her parents, Emma was predeceased by a brother, Lenzie Towns, niece, Carolyn Alston-Glenn, nephew, James Alston, Jr., sister and brother in-law, Carrie and James Alston. Left to cherish fond memories are nieces and nephews, Lenzie Towns, Jr. (Karen), Leonard Towns (Filomena), Darryl Neal Alston, Simone Gardner, William Gardner (Rhonda), Donyale Revan, Eartha Taylor, Shannon Towns, Justin Towns, Eric Nelson, Jr., Darryl Alston, Jr, Xavier Nelson, Trivon Alston, Nickia Hutchinson, Shanice Smith, Cari Burton, Caitlyn Burton, Krista Smith, Nyle Gardner, Maurice Webb, III, Kyell Nelson, Justin Webb and a host of other nieces and nephews; sister in-law, Margaret Towns and brother in-law, Charlie “Bobby” Mayo.
