Obituary Dr. William Venema Jr., age 87, a man of faith, went to be with his heavenly father on Monday, October 28, 2019 in Grand Rapids, MI. He was born in Cicero, IL and spent most of his life in the Chicago suburbs. He attended Calvin College, where he met his wife Lois. He graduated from the University of Illinois School of Dentistry in 1956. Two years were spent as a Lieutenant in the Navy in California. Dr. Venema had a dental practice first in Oak Park and then in Western Springs, IL for 40 years. The family lived in Oak Brook, IL. Bill and Lois spent many years at their cottage on Hutchins Lake and wintered in Florida. He was an avid tennis player and golfer into his 80’s. Bill served on many boards, including Church Council, Timothy Christian Schools, Calvin College and Calvin Seminary, World and Home Missions, Rest Haven, and various dental organizations. He had a heart for missions and volunteered as a dentist in Nigeria and Liberia, Africa. He also spent much time in the Dominican Republic where he helped establish a Dental Clinic. The Venemas loved to travel and enjoyed many family vacations because he loved to spend time with his family. In 2002 the Venemas moved to Grand Rapids, MI. Bill loved people and made friends easily. He was always happy to entertain church groups, bridge players and his pool buddies. Bill is survived by his wife, Lois, of 67 years, and their three daughters: Susan Potter (Dennis), Carol Buist (Bob) and Mary Kaszuba (Tom); their grandchildren: Jennifer Huizinga (Dave), Eric Buist (Kendra), and Dr. Megan Everson (Josh); six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and William Venema, three sisters, one brother and their spouses.
