Davis, age 76, a resident of Albany, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2019. She was known to family and friends as ‘Sweet one’. She was born December 27, 1942 in Blakely, Georgia to the late Tommy and Fleeta Glenn Spencer. Mrs. Davis was educated in Georgia, graduating from Washington High School in Early County, and continued on at Albany State University where she obtained her Master’s Degree in Education. She began her teaching career, which would span over 37 years, in various school districts, including Montezuma, Georgia, Newton, Georgia at Baker County School District, and Camille, Georgia at the Mitchell County, School District. She enjoyed teaching science classes, especially biology and retired in 2005. To many students she was a mother figure and as time went on, long after graduation, her former students would see her and express their affection. She was a devoted teacher and was an inspiration to her students. On a personal note, she enjoyed music. She listened to soul, R & B, and gospel genres. Traveling to the Bahamans or taking a cruise, traveling with her siblings created many wonderful memories. She will be remembered for the culinary skills, especially her cake baking. Known to the family as the ‘cake lady’ her pound cake was her specialty. Using the old fashioned ice cream technique she could make the most memorable vanilla ice cream. She will be greatly missed by her loving family including her daughter Dr. Melissa B. Davis, her grandchildren, Melia Sage Davis, and Liam Spencer Davis, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, sister in law Cynthia Spencer and brother in law Johnny Jones. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Elois Jones, Emma Spencer, Willie Spencer, and Anne Urquhart. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, 140 South Main, Mount Clemens, Michigan.
