Peter J. Horvath, Jr. passed away on June 20th, 2019 in Newberg at the age of 73. Born in Chicago, Illinois to Peter Horvath Sr. and Louise Horvath Graduated in 1963 from Main Township South High School in Park Ridge, IL He worked for his Father at Pete’s Automotive Shop in Chicago, IL. Pete then joined the US Army from 1966 to 1968 and later returned to work for his father again at the automotive shop. He then met and married Theresa Kopielski on January 17th, 1972 and moved his family to Newberg, Oregon in 1976 and started a small farm with horses, cows, pigs, sheep, chickens and ducks, later the barn became a sanctuary for thousands of classic car parts. Upon moving to Newberg, Pete opened Pete’s Precision Automotive in Newberg, Oregon. Several years later he was offered a job with the Newberg School District as a maintenance worker up until retirement in 2009. He was very involved with many of his peers by volunteering to drive the van for the Hood to Coast and every summer would join many teachers in the Seaside Wellness Conference. Pete was known for his sense of humor, everyone that knew him liked him. He had a passion for Hot Rods, and owned many classic cars throughout his life, having raced them and built them from the ground up. He was later known as the go-to person if you needed a classic Chevy car part, local car parts stores would refer people to him for parts. Pete and Theresa founded the car club North Valley Cruzzers in 1992 in which is still an active car club today. They were also responsible for adding onto the Newberg Old Fashioned Festival by incorporating a Car Show on Sundays in which is still an active event today. Preceded in his death: Father Peter Horvath Sr., mother Louise Horvath, wife, Theresa Horvath, brother, George Horvath and sister, Kay Saffert. He is survived by his son, Thomas Horvath, daughters Rose (Horvath) Marugg and Kathy (Horvath) McWilliams and his grandchildren, Gary Horvath, Nicholas Marugg, Bryan Marugg, Emma McWilliams and Ava McWilliams, sisters Mari (Horvath) Purdy and Pat (Horvath) Hyde. The family will be having a celebration of life services on July 19th at 2pm at Attrell’s Funeral Chapel in Newberg, OR. The family would like you to drive your classic car and/or wear a hot rod t-shirt in honor of Pete. A reception will follow.
