Nellie Louise (Forister) Breece , 99, of Evansville Indiana passed away Friday, September 14th, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. She was born August 12, 1920 in Evansville, IN to the late William C. and Leona (Connor) Forister. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, James R. Breece; brother, William C. Forister Jr.; sisters, Mary E. Lackey and Leona “Nonie” Forister; granddaughter, Kristen Shelton; son-in-law, John T. Higgins; sister-in-law, June Forister; brother-in-law, Ray Lackey and nephew William I. Forister. She is survived by daughters, Elaine Higgins and Rosemary Shelton (Daren) both of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Kendra E. Delgman (Leonard) of Newburgh, IN, John M. Higgins, Karen E. Hellenberg (David), Kim Phelps (Chris), Todd Shelton, Kerry Shelton (Tina) all of Evansville, IN; great-grandchildren, Hadley Delgman , Alex Delgman , Adam Delgman of Newburgh, IN, Leslie McFall (Dex) of Newburgh, IN, Cameron Higgins (Katie) of Boonville, IN, Justin Higgins of Los Angeles, CA, Tara McDaniel (Scott), Matthew Schaefer (Kelly), Erin Forker, Nicholas Shelton, Zach Shelton and Jade Shelton all of Evansville, IN; niece, Pam Bell of Albuquerque, NM and nephews Larry Lackey of Newburgh, IN, Steve Forister of Evansville, IN, and twelve great-great grandchildren. Nellie loved her family deeply and while growing up took care of her younger sister, Nonie, who had cerebral palsy. You could always find her in the kitchen cooking and canning, working in her garden, or on the phone talking with one of her daughters, who she loved with all her heart. She was the most loving and the best grandmother to all her grandchildren and was always part of their lives. Her love continued to the next generation with her great-grandchildren, for whom she babysat and made her famous homemade biscuits and gravy and homemade chicken and dumplings. She had a huge heart for those in need, especially children, and would always feed strangers passing through if they were hungry. She loved nature, and was always feeding the many birds and rabbits that filled her yard. She loved dancing to big band music in her younger years and even into her elderly years. She especially loved dancing to the music of the TempleAires. She enjoyed bowling and bowled on a team in the late 1950s and early 1960s. She was a lifetime member of the VFW women’s auxiliary. Nellie was a fifty-nine year breast cancer survivor, having been diagnosed and undergoing subsequent surgery in 1960. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, 47714, with the Rosary at 6:00 pm. Visitation will continue from 9:30 am to 10:00 am on Friday, September 20, 2019 at Annunciation Catholic Parish, Holy Spirit, 1800 Lodge Ave., Evansville, 47714. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 am with Fr. Alex Zenthoefer officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 1800 S. George Rd., Evansville, 47711.
