Mary M. (Deig) Weinzapfel, 71, of Mt. Vernon, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Bethel Manor surrounded by family. Mary was born July 22, 1948 in Evansville to the late Marcellus and Nellie Mae (Carr) Deig. She, along with her husband Gary, owned and operated Weinzapfel’s Tavern for 15 years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and shopping. Surviving Mary are two daughters, Kelly (Kirk) Birchler and Karen Weinzapfel; a sister, Delores (Tim) Hudson; brothers, Gerry (Penny) Deig and Bob Deig and six grandchildren, Haylee, McKenna, Cameron, Thea and Macy Birchler and Braxtyn Crow. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Gary Weinzapfel, in 2018; by a son, Donald Lee Weinzapfel; by two brothers who died during childhood, Marcellus and Donald Deig and by a granddaughter, Skylar Crow. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at St. Philip Catholic Church, Rev. Claude Burns officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Philip Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday at Pierre Funeral Home from 9:30 AM until service time on Wednesday at St. Philip Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, Evansville, IN 47712 to help offset funeral expenses.
