Mary’s Obituary Mary Alice Moore, 53, lost her battle with cancer on Friday, September 27, 2019 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center. Mary was born on March 15, 1966 at the Naval Base in Rota Spain to Charles and (the late) Alice Wolner. Mary graduated from Westmorland High School in 1984 in Westmoreland, NY as Class President. While in high school, she was a proud member of the softball team where she pitched a no-hitter game leading her team to victory. Mary graduated from Mohawk Valley Community College in Rome, NY in 1987. Mary had a passion for traveling and has lived in Holland, California, Nevada, Massachusetts and settled in North Carolina in 1995. Mary is the proud mother of Samantha Herrick, Phoenix Herrick and Joseph Moore. Mary was also the “Mom” to Leah Chappell and Cory Taormina who will become official family members in 2020. Mary worked in the service industry for over 20 years and LOVED working at Wilmington International Airport (ILM) as a Customer Service Agent for US Airways which became American Airlines. She treated each and every customer with the utmost care and respect and always tried to bump them to First Class, get them a better connection, or get them another bag checked. Whatever it took to make their travel better, she did it. She adored her co-workers and taught them every trick in (and out) of the book. When Mary was not working she loved to travel to Europe, to tropical islands (especially Turks and Caicos), or to any destination that served margaritas and had a beach. Mary also enjoyed baseball, especially cheering on the Boston Red Sox. The last four years were the best travel years of all with her soulmate Rob Allan. For the last thirteen years, Mary attended Port City Community Church in Wilmington with her son Joe. Mary is survived by her Father, Charles Wolner, her children Sam Herrick (Leah Chappell), Phoenix Herrick (Cory Taormina), and Joe Moore, her boyfriend, best friend and fellow Red Sox fan Rob Allan, her sisters Lynn (Scott) Burdick and Shoie (David) McCarthy, and her childhood lifelong friend Dede O’Dell. She is also survived by nieces Ava McCarthy, Quinn McCarthy, and Sarah Kate Burdick, as well as nephew Justin Burdick. She is preceded in death by her mother Alice Wolner and her sister Kelly Wolner and her favorite Cousin Brian Moody. A funeral service is being held on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Port City Community Church in Wilmington, 250 Vision Drive. Calling hours will be from 11am-Noon with the service starting at Noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Port City Community Church or Lower Cape Fear Hospice. Read More
