  1. I entered the Air Force Academy the summer of 1964 when Coach/Captain Schier arrived as head gymnastics coach. Over the next four years, he taught me not just gymnastics but also leadership and professionalism. His standards were high and he lead by example. proud to have had the opportunity to call him coach!

I only today discovered of Karl’s passing. He and I were childhood friend’s having lived directly across from each other in Philadelphia on Palmetto St. My parents and I moved to New Jersey in 1955 and I lost touch with him. I was very aware of some of his achievements but, more important, knew him as a very pleasant, nice friend.
Please accept my condolences for your loss. We all have lost a valued and good person.
