Obituary of Harold Ryan Harold T. Ryan was born on December 22, 1923, in Northstar Township, Brown County, MN, the son of Lawrence and Cecelia (Groebner) Ryan. He attended school in District 27 in Sundown Township, St. Raphael’s Catholic School, and graduated from Springfield High School in 1941. Harold served in the U.S. Navy from November 25, 1944 until his honorable discharge on June 26, 1946. He enjoyed farming with his father and brother. Harold also worked for Schoffman Implement as a farm equipment salesman from January of 1964 until his retirement on July 1, 1985. He lived on south Hoyt until purchasing his home at Riverview Homestead on December 15, 1994. Harold was a charter member of the Riverview Homestead Co-Op and served for 15 years and 12 years as President. He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church and served on the Pastoral Council and Finance Council. Harold was honored with the Bishop Medal of Honor and in 2004 the Senior Co-Op Housing Leadership Award. He served as a board member of the Springfield Library for 9 years and served on the Brown County Library Board, and was a 40 year member of the Springfield Golf Course, and was an active member of the American Legion. Harold enjoyed flower gardening, golfing, reading, and classic country music. He is survived by his brother Daniel (Doris) Ryan of Beaver Dam, WI; sister Carol (Al) Knutson of Dallas, TX; sister-in-law Gloria Ryan of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews. Harold is preceded in death by his parents; brothers – Russell and Gail; and a sisters – Virginia and Lucille.
