McConaghy, of Newtown Square, formerly of Villanova, PA., passed away on Monday August 26, 2019 at the Bryn Mawr Hospital with his family by his side. He was 82. Son of the late John T. and Joan Marie Crane McConaghy, Bill was born on January 11, 1937 at The Bryn Mawr Hospital. He was a graduate of Malvern Preparatory School class of 1954. He attended Villanova University and was a graduate of Eckels College of Mortuary Science class of 1957. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1958. Because of his funeral service background he was assigned to work at Arlington National Cemetery where he assisted families with funeral planning and scheduling. He met Carol Hart in 1963 at of all places a funeral for her grandmother that was taking place at the McConaghy Funeral Home . They were married in 1964. Upon the death of his father, John T. McConaghy, in March of 1965, Bill assumed control of the McConaghy Funeral Home and was involved with the business up until a few years ago when his health began to decline. He was an avid fan of all of Villanova University sports teams, especially basketball and football. He attended basketball Final Fours in 1971 where Villanova lost to UCLA in the championship game, and in 1985, with his 3 sons, where they beat Georgetown for the National Championship. After some heart problems in the late 1980’s he was told he needed to exercise more so he started walking everyday and became a fixture up on the Villanova campus where he would walk daily and chat up any of the Augustinian’s or check out whatever teams where practicing in the Villanova Stadium. Bill was a devoted husband and loving father, but more than anything he loved being Pop-Pop to his 8 grandchildren. Whether it was watching them play sports, or just having them over at the house, seeing them was a joy to him that really kept him going the last couple of years. Bill was the beloved husband of Carol McConaghy (nee Hart). Devoted father of Erin M. O’Hara (David), John J. (Melissa), Christopher C. (Victoria) and Brian H. McConaghy.
